After we reviewed my options, I opted for an implant. Sitting in a dentist’s chair is one of my least favorite activities as I would rather be tied to a mound of fire ants than have work done on my mouth. ‘Voluntering’ for this ‘duty’ was difficult for me. But no one anywhere has a more gentle touch than Luciano. His injections of Novocaine are done without prior spraying of a numbing agent and it doesn’t matter, I literally felt almost nothing, his technique is that smooth. I have an embarrassing gag reflex but he works quickly and he didn’t require my mouth to be gaping open. He noted that I lacked sufficient bone for the implant to adhere to, so a little bovine calcium was added at a fair cost for this rare, imported material. The implant was painlessly installed. And though he prescribed pills for discomfort, there was no need for them. After four months of healing, the implant was tested and found secure and his partner Dra. Julie Feinzaig worked with him to fabricate a crown and install the titanium screw. She graduated summa cum laud from the University of Mexico City and follows in the footsteps of her highly regarded father who owns the modern, well-equipped practice in San Jose. She ultimately installed the crown, taking care that my bite was perfect and that it fit perfectly in the space provided. It’s great to chew on both sides of my mouth again. As a child, I spent three years with metal braces being tightened monthly, so I started life equating dentists with pain and suffering. Now 58 years old, I’ve lived and worked in many country’s around the world. In Florida I’ve utilized fine dentists with state-of-the-art facilities, but this is very expensive. I needed emergency work in the provincial Philippines where they didn’t think anything of drilling without Novocaine and where sterility is dubious.
